It’s now 5:43am on August 9th. Roughly 24 hours after I started seeing the outpour of emotion and frustration from so many of my friends in the vaping industry as the proverbial FDA gag order was starting to take effect. No longer could they promote the honesty of the vaping industry or help people make the same transition. Things started to freeze in place, and I used the analogy of the ice sculpture to describe the vaping industry quite a few times in recent months. The sculpture even now has a couple of drops already starting to fade away…
But let’s take a look at a few things here. There are some definite positives to the situation given by the FDA. Even though lots of companies would rather have spent the time crafting and recrafting their brands, a lot of juice companies introduced a vast majority of new products and flavors leading up to 11:59:59pm on August 7th. My friends at Bad Modder Fogger released 23 new flavors in a “Refined” liquid line. The gentleman I interviewed just recently from Venum Vapur released 3 new lines with a total of 15 new flavors. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg…
The creativity of the cogs behind the wheel have been dissecting the regulations since day one. As the definition of the regulations started to take hold, so did the leadway on what is allowed. From there, it quickly started becoming an extension of the old phrase “give an inch, take a mile”. Where some people started to give up at the thought of not being able to add in coils or troubleshoot a device themselves, there were plenty of others that said “I can still show you…just not on your device. I can teach you how to do it yourself…I just can’t do it for you”. That’s a major plus in and of itself. It’s about teaching the user on what they are doing, and for most of us it has been an education from the beginning.
However, there’s one thing that has been stripped from everyone who works in the industry. As much passion as they all have, they still cannot state anything regarding the overall improved health benefits of switching to vaping to be able to quit smoking cigarettes. No more speaking of the “95% more effective”. It’s the equivalent of someone in the health industry stating “I can’t tell you because I’m not a doctor and cannot make that call”. According to the FDA, there have not been enough studies to show the overall effectiveness of vaping over other smoking cessation products.
Those of us who have been paying attention know that is an absolute lie. The Royal College of Physicians didn’t just assume their stance on the effectiveness of vaping when they stated that vaping is 95% safer than smoking. And yet a lot of studies have created situations that nowhere near mimic the common environment for most of us vapers, which in turn has led to some skewered information..but we will get into that later.
We as consumers have to speak up. The people who have been leading the charge with their shops and products have now been told to keep quiet. It’s our job now to show our support to those who are trying to find a healthier lifestyle. It’s our job to speak up about the benefits that we all have felt after giving up cigarettes and switching to this innovative lifestyle. And its our job to do what we can to keep this industry alive.
Time is ticking, folks…and a billion lives are at stake….
Until next time…vape on!
